Project:

Effort Estimation for Skuid to LWR Migration

Cloud Science Labs turned a complex migration challenge of a travel and tourism client into a structured, risk-aware, and business-aligned plan.

The Challenge:

The travel company’s existing system was built using a now-outdated framework (Skuid on Aura), which wasn’t compatible with newer Salesforce technologies. The following were the challenges the client was facing:

  • Difficult to reuse anything in its current form

  • Pages were slow to load, difficult to maintain, and not scalable for future growth.

  • Figuring out the time and effort it would take to rebuild everything using the latest Salesforce experience tools

Our Solution:

At CSL, we believe in clarity and strategy before execution. So, instead of jumping straight into building, we helped the client with a pre-sales estimation engagement, a deep-dive planning exercise that laid out everything clearly before the project began.

Here’s what we did:

  • Mapped Out the Existing System: We reviewed all their current pages, tools, and connections to understand how everything worked.

  • Created a Migration Blueprint: We matched what they had with what the new system (Lightning Web Runtime, or LWR) would need, identifying which parts could be adapted and which needed rebuilding.

  • Built a Working Prototype: We created a real working version of one of their key pages. This gave everyone, from executives to developers, a clear view of how things would look and perform.

  • Estimated the Effort Accurately: With all this insight, we broke down the work into clear components and provided a transparent estimate, 450 hours, with a detailed plan.

Results:

This early engagement delivered big value:

  • Clear Migration Blueprint: Delivered a component-by-component roadmap detailing what could be reused, what needed custom development, and how the transition would take place.

  • Effort Estimation Accuracy: Provided a precise, category-based estimation totaling 450 hours, helping the client plan resources and budget effectively.

  • Performance Validation: The prototype confirmed that the LWR-based site would offer faster load times and improved user experience compared to the existing setup.

  • Technical Risk Mitigation: Early validation uncovered integration and styling nuances, reducing the risk of roadblocks during the actual migration.

  • Budget Clarity: With a detailed estimate in hand, the client can now plan with confidence.

Technology Involved:

  • Frontend Framework: Lightning Web Runtime (LWR)

  • Component Library: Lightning Web Components (LWC)

  • Legacy Platform: Skuid on Aura

  • Data & Integration: Salesforce REST APIs and Apex Controllers

  • DevOps & Deployment: Salesforce DX (SFDX) and GitHub Actions
